Kairyna was breathing heavily, sweat pouring down her brow. Ravyn had been training her mercilessly over the last few weeks. Before beginning the training, she knew she wasn’t in top physical condition. She was now discovering just how badly out of shape she was. At least, in comparison to someone who had been written as a physically fit warrior of one sort or another.

            For the time being, Ravyn had her concentration on building up her stamina, strength, endurance, and flexibility. That meant more running than all her previous years combined, and quite possibly more than all her future years as well. It was tiring and there were times she felt something within her was going to break down from the exertion.

            A shadow fell across her...
