It was early in the morning and Kairyna had sent the others on ahead of her to train. She hung back, waiting for Jayce to make his appearance. They needed to talk, but she also needed time to mentally prepare herself for what she knew would be an infuriating conversation.

            When Jayce stepped out of the hideout, Kairyna made her presence known by moving into his line of sight. His gaze fell on her but he refused to make eye contact.

            “Jayce,” she began, “we need to talk.”

            He sighed. “If you’re going to try to convince me about leaving then don’t bother. I already said no.” He turned to walk away from her.

            Gritting her teeth, she ran around so that she stood in his way...
