Goodbye Animation

Dear Winterites,

Wow. It’s here. It’s happening. The end of the school year!

Last weekend brought some amazing weather, let me tell you. 20˚- 30˚C temperatures. Great weather equals great times. I spent as much time outdoors as possible.

On Saturday, I spent the first half of the day in the recording studio with friends working on our collab project. It has nothing to do with school and everything to do with having fun and being creative. Once we finished our recording session, it was off on an adventure. Well, a walking adventure. Found a trail to follow that took us to a bit of a stream with a graffitied bridge. We found some sticks along the way. One was apparently a “butt measure” stick. That was a misheard expression that ended up sticking for the rest of the walk (pun intended).

(Not the prettiest bridge, nor the prettiest graffiti, but there it is. Looks like it belongs in a zombie film.)

(BTS of the recording studio. Getting ourselves setup for epicness! Don't worry, I'll let you all know when this single drops.)

Felt properly tired after that full day. And the next day was just as excellent. Went downtown Ottawa with the same gang for the sole purpose of . . . well, I wanted a pecan tart. We walked around lots and just enjoyed each other’s company.

(You may have seen the tart on the left before if you've been following the blog. I got one at the beginning of my time in Ottawa when my parents brought me over. It seemed fitting to end my time with the same. Then to the right is a simple moment between friends. I forget what we were talking about exactly, but there were several fist bumps involved.)

(As usual, there's me making weird faces.)

(Just another spot of weirdness and goofing around. With a little bit of "mom" coming out.)

Thankfully, there were no classes on Monday, which meant I could sleep in. I needed it after spending so much time outdoors.

I love photosynthesizing and all that, but the sun exhausts me.

In a good way though. When you spend physical energy AND mental energy to the fullest, that’s the best feeling. Then sleep is sweet.

Without needing to go to class, and with the weather taking a turn for the colder again (Canada, eh?), I started putting together a few things in preparation for summer projects. I’ve got a list of things I’d like to do over the summer months, though we’ll see what time allows for. But getting that prep work in will help. And then I just watched some enjoyably lame movies while making a few story notes also for the upcoming summer projects.

On Tuesday, it was diving back into the final animation assignment. Honestly, I was finding it to be a little bit on the boring side. So, instead of following instructions, I went rogue and did my own thing, changing the ending. It’s the last one for me, so I figured why not have some fun with it.

Look at me being rebellious!

In scriptwriting we were given some great life advice. I will certainly be figuring out how to put some of these ideas into practice.

After class on Wednesday, I dedicated my entire afternoon to typing up the spec script I’ve been working on into proper formatting. That was some exhausting work for sure. I had to stop and stretch out my hands and wrists in between just to keep from getting stiff. Felt good though, getting the full thing completed. I’m proud of myself.

Then the evening was spent with the girls. Last time. We ate pie. It was delicious.

On Thursday, I actually had a pretty good art day. My gestures were still whatever, but my long study turned out quite well. I didn’t hate it. I was the only one who stayed at the back view, which meant I couldn’t do a face study. My prof told me my hands and feet had to be amazing. I don’t think I did all the construction correctly, but I rather like how the hands and feet turned out. Pleased.

**Warning, as it is a life drawing class, the models pose nude. If that triggers you, please ignore the photos or stop reading here.**

(Just a few gestures. Like I said, they were nothing amazing and some of them actually look rather wonky, but whatever. It's all about warming up for the long studies anyway.)

(And the long study that I'm quite pleased with. The feet are decent, and the hand is pretty good. There are a few mistakes again, a little bit of mis-measuring and whatnot, but overall it isn't aesthetically displeasing. I'm happy with that.)

I decided not to bring my computer since I finished the character design assignment the previous week. I still went to class. Just hung out and offered some ideas to nearby classmates who were working on additional character poses.

And that was our last time together.

Friday’s class was online, and I finished off my assignment within the first hour. With that submitted, I’m officially done!

(I loved making that ending. It was so fun. I expect I'll be docked marks for it, but so long as it puts a smile on my prof's face, that's all that matters. It was a truly great experience and I'm glad of it.)

Thanks for coming along on this journey with me. The adventure doesn’t end, of course. It just changes a bit. My posts will be a bit more sporadic over the summer as I really need to give proper attention to some other projects and a bit of website maintenance, but I intend on getting back into it once school starts back up again. This time, we’re diving into the world of scripts!

Hope to see you there, and have an amazing summer!
